PHOENIX — Mesa received a record number of donations of bottled water this year. Kevin Christopher, a spokesman for the City of Mesa, said the Hydration Donation campaign was one of the East Valley city’s most successful.

“We set a goal of 300,000 bottles of water to collect for the summer and we wound up with more than 320,000,” Christopher said. “This helps people who are homeless as well as other unsheltered people.”

Christopher explained some of the organizations that will directly benefit from the donations.

“The water goes to a lot of other agencies like the East Valley Men’s Center for homeless men, Central Arizona Shelter Services and St. Vincent de Paul, so those agencies also get the water and that directly goes to the homeless and others who really need it,” Christopher said.

Christopher said nearly 100,000 more bottles of water were donated over the last year. The water was handed out at city parks, shelters and food banks.
