Mesa Grande Cultural Park to celebrate seasonal reopening Saturday following 2-year pause

PHOENIX — After more than two years away, the Mesa Grande Cultural Park will host a seasonal reopening on Saturday, International Archaeology Day.

The event is scheduled to take place from 10 a.m. to noon near Country Club Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.

Mesa Grande is part of the Arizona Museum of Natural History, as it features “one of the last remaining platform mounds surrounded by a plaza, which was built by the ancestral Sonoran Desert dwellers between AD 1100 and 1450,” according to the museum.

The reopening will include an exhibit that features Native American baskets, an artifact show and tell, archaeology tours and activities and crafts for attendees of all ages.

Tickets can be bought $6 per person and $2 for members of the Arizona Museum of Natural History.

Admission, which is available at the door, includes tours, crafts and activities.
