Elderly woman dies, man injured in Mesa fire

PHOENIX — The Mesa Fire Department determined a fatal fire Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. when Mesa Fire officials said they responded to a trailer fire near Val Vista Drive and East Main Street.

When Mesa fire crews arrived, they found a single-wide trailer home with a parked car in the street fully consumed with fire.

Mesa fire officials entered the home once they were able to knock the fire down and found a woman dead on the scene.

The home belonged to a couple reported to be in their 70’s to 80’s, according to fire officials.

The woman’s partner escaped the home and was treated and transported to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and possible burns. He was listed in stable condition.

Officials said the home had a working fire alarm. The fire caused minor damage to nearby homes in addition to the couple’s home.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
