3 Valley men sentenced for fraud scheme against Amazon

PHOENIX — Three Valley men have been sentenced and financially penalized for their respective roles in a fraud scheme against technological giant Amazon.

Glendale’s Mughith Faisal and brother Basheer Faisal were each given 18 months in prison on Feb. 5 and Feb. 17, respectively, while Surprise’s Abdullah Alwan received six months in prison on Monday. All men pleaded guilty to wire fraud and each were ordered by prosecutors to pay $1.5 million in restitution to Amazon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Alwan, who worked for Amazon’s logistics division until 2021, allegedly “created and tracked transportation loads of Amazon products” as he “increased transportation rates” for Arizona-based third-party product carrier, Blue Line Transport.

The Faisal brothers were operating Blue Line Transport in conspiracy with Alwan, as the carrier “knowingly received the fraudulently increased transportation rates.”

It was estimated by prosecutors that the amount defrauded from Amazon totaled $4.5 million.

FBI Phoenix was responsible for the case’s investigation.
