Medieval Times in Scottsdale holding open auditions for knights

PHOENIX — Medieval Times is seeking candidates to join the Knights of the Realm at the Scottsdale Castle.

The attraction is hoping to cast 8-10 knights to compete in games, jousting and sword fighting both on foot and horseback during the two-hour live tournaments, according to a press release.

An open casting call will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Scottsdale Castle, located at 9051 East Vía de Ventura.

“Our Knights of the Realm have perhaps the most unique job description for any role in the Valley,” Drew Barnes, marketing and sales manager at Medieval Times’ Scottsdale Castle, said in the release.

“In addition to the arena combat, Medieval Times knights care for our stable of 24 majestic Andalusian horses, who we consider to be the stars of the show. This is an extraordinary career for those looking for an opportunity that has zero boring days.”

Candidates don’t have to have any horse riding, weaponry or combat experience because a paid extensive training program will be provided, according to the release.

Once the person completes training and performance as a squire and a knight’s in-combat assistant, they are then able to join the Knights of the Realm.

Applicants must be male, at least 18 years old, pass a physical abilities test and be comfortable working with horses, according to the release.

Knights of the Realm must also be open to work varied hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.

The Texas-based chain, which has 10 locations across the United States and Canada, opened its first and so far only Arizona castle in 2019.
