Mecum Auctions Glendale car event in town this week

PHOENIX — If you love flashy cars than you might want to head out to Mecum Auctions in Glendale this week.

The family-friendly car event is in its sixth year and will be held at State Farm Stadium on Tuesday thru Saturday.

Up for auction are 2,000 American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, trucks, exotics, restored and modified cars and hot rods. Car consignors and registered bidders from across the country take part in the auction.

A last year’s Glendale event, Mecum auction sales brought in more than $54 million, selling 942 classic and collector cars. A top-notch 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe sold for $1.8 million.

This year, Mecum is debuting “The Adventure Zone,” where kids can ride Power Wheels, participate in coloring contests and slot car racing and paint miniature cars.

Bidder registration starts at $100 and can be done online or in-person at the auction. For those who can’t attend in-person there will be remote online and telephone bidding available.

  • $30 per person, per day or $75 for a three-day pass. (A 25% discount is available for tickets purchased online before midnight Monday.)
  • Children 12 and younger are free.
  • Doors open daily at 8 a.m.
  • Road art memorabilia items to begin at 9 a.m. and the car auctions start at 10 a.m.
  • Free parking is available in the stadium’s east lot.
