Maricopa County confirms 15th measles case of 2026, identifies new Queen Creek exposure sites

Maricopa County health officials confirmed a new measles case Wednesday, bringing the county’s 2026 total to 15 as an ongoing outbreak continues to spread locally.

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) said the latest case is linked to a previously confirmed local infection that had no known travel history or exposure source, suggesting community transmission within the county.

The outbreak has been heavily concentrated in the East Valley, with the majority of exposure sites identified in Mesa, Queen Creek and Gilbert.

Health officials identified three new public exposure sites where people may have been infected:

• Arizona Athletic Grounds (Building A) at 6321 S. Ellsworth Road in Mesa, on May 5 from 3 to 9 p.m., May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and May 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Pecan Lake Entertainment at 25004 S. 206th Street in Queen Creek on May 6 from 6 to 9 p.m.
• Queen Creek High School’s Club Dance Recital at 22149 Ocotillo Road in Queen Creek on May 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.

What symptoms should you watch for with measles?

The measles virus can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the area. Anyone who visited these locations during the listed times should monitor for symptoms through late May.

MCDPH urges residents to confirm they are up to date on their measles vaccinations and to recognize early symptoms, which include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash.

Anyone experiencing symptoms is asked to stay home and call a healthcare provider before seeking treatment to avoid exposing others.
