MCSO deputy, truck driver hospitalized after collision in Tempe

PHOENIX – A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured in a collision with a semitruck on a Tempe street Wednesday morning.

The vehicles crashed near Baseline and Rural roads around 3:55 a.m., the Tempe Police Department said.

Both drivers were taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening, police said.

According to police, the on-duty deputy was driving southbound through the intersection when the vehicle was T-boned by a semitruck going eastbound.

There were no early signs of impairment for either person behind the wheel, police said.

The intersection was closed in all directions and was expected to remain so for hours.
