McSally honors fallen Buckeye firefighter on Senate floor

PHOENIX — Sen. Martha McSally took to the floor of the U.S. Senate on Tuesday to honor an Arizona firefighter who died while combating bushfires in Australia.
“Last week, I co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution honoring the three American firefighters who lost their lives fighting Australia’s bushfires this year, including First Officer Paul Hudson from Buckeye, Arizona,” McSally said on the Senate floor.
First Officer Paul Hudson, 42, of Buckeye died in a Jan. 23 plane crash with two other American firefighters near Richmond in New South Wales.
Hudson and the two others were aboard a large water tanker equipped with retardant while on a firebombing mission when their aircraft went down.
“When aid was needed in Australia to combat the devastating wildfires, Paul jumped into action, put his life on the line to help others,” McSally continued.
“He was only 42 years old when he was killed in a plane crash while fighting to extinguish these awful fires. My heart and my prayers and Arizona’s heart and Arizona’s prayers go out to his wife, Norine, in their loss.”
Hudson retired from the Marine Corps as a lieutenant colonel after serving for 20 years. After graduating from the Naval Academy in 1999, he earned a master’s degree in business administration and information technology from the Naval Postgraduate School.
