Maricopa County recorder says he would be ‘happy to comply’ if given court order for voter records

PHOENIX – Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap said Friday that if he receives a court order to turn over voter data, he would be “happy to comply.”
“My office is certainly willing to comply with a court order if we receive it to turn over records, but we have not had that request come in for us,” Heap told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show.
The first-term Republican recorder said he takes guarding voter records and privacy “very seriously.”
“The FBI or an agency needs to go to court, get an order for us, and if that’s the case, we’re happy to comply,” he said.
Why is Maricopa County voter data in the news?
The issue of voter data disclosure became a hot topic in Arizona after state Senate President Warren Petersen confirmed Monday that he recently complied with a subpoena for records related to the 2022 Cyber Ninjas-led audit of the 2020 election in Maricopa County.
Additionally, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes reportedly sent a letter Monday to the state’s county recorders saying it would be illegal to disclose full, unredacted voter files to the Department of Justice. Mayes and Fontes urged recorders to notify them immediately about any federal grand jury subpoenas for private voter data.
The DOJ has filed lawsuits against Arizona and other states for refusing to provide voter roll data.
Justin Heap says Maricopa County Recorder’s Office hasn’t been subpoenaed
Heap reiterated Friday that the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office has not been contacted about turning over election records.
“So far, as part of this investigation into 2020, we haven’t received any requests from the FBI, or any other agency, either, to have us turn over all of the voter rolls or these 2022 records,” he said. “It seems like, so far, those subpoenas for records have gone to the state Legislature. So, they’re looking for the audit materials and things in the Legislature’s possession from 2022.”

Of course this election denier MAGAt would be "happy" to comply. Fortunately for us voters, so far the federal courts have smacked down these attempts in other states.
