Maricopa County reports record voter turnout for August primary

PHOENIX — The Maricopa County Elections Department announced on Thursday that over 800,000 voters cast a ballot in the August Primary Election, the most in county history.

As of Thursday, unofficial results show that over 855,000 ballots were cast, which represents over 35% of total eligible voters.

Over 2,300 ballots are still left to process and verify, according to a press release.

A total of 353 early ballots have not yet been processed and tabulated, and 1,913 still need verified.

Early voters have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to contact the county’s elections department.

The more than 800,000 voters continue an upward trend over the last four years.

Nearly 700,000 ballots were cast in 2018, while over 555,000 voters participated in the 2016 primary.
