Man suspected of fatally stabbing pregnant woman in Tempe arrested

A man suspected of fatally stabbing a pregnant woman and her unborn child was arrested Sunday morning, according to Tempe Police.

PHOENIX — A man suspected of fatally stabbing a pregnant woman and her unborn child was arrested Sunday morning, according to Tempe Police.

Police said they arrested the unidentified man after stopping his vehicle around 11:45 a.m. on westbound Interstate 10 near Quartzsite, Arizona.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to an apartment complex near University and McClintock drives after they received a report of a woman screaming in the parking lot.

Police said they found the 39-year-old woman in her third trimester of pregnancy with stab wounds and transported her to a nearby hospital.

Both she and the baby died from injuries at the hospital.

Police said the woman was not a Tempe resident, and detectives were continuing to investigate the incident.
