A man was shot and killed by his girlfriend’s neighbor after he allegedly stabbed her and a relative at a Phoenix apartment early Saturday morning, authorities said.
Officers were called to a complex near 16th Street and Missouri Avenue just after midnight for reports of screaming and a possible stabbing, according to the Phoenix Police Department. Witnesses also said that they heard gunshots.
When police arrived at the complex, they found a 40-year-old man at the bottom of a stairwell with a gunshot wound and a knife.
Inside an apartment, they also found two women, aged 27 and 30, with multiple stab wounds. They were taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and were described as being in critical condition.
Detectives determined the man who was killed was in a romantic relationship with one of the woman. He showed up to the apartment uninvited and stabbed one woman before the second tried to intervene and he stabbed her too.
The incident got the attention of a neighbor who shot the man as he was attacking the women. The neighbor was detained then released pending the investigation’s completion.
