West Valley man shot while sitting in car with woman he met online

PHOENIX — A West Valley man is recovering after he was shot while sitting in a car with a woman he met online, authorities announced Tuesday.

The shooting happened around 1 a.m. on Tuesday near the intersection of Maricopa Road and Sunset Point Boulevard, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

The alleged shooter, 28-year-old Alejandro Nambo Delacruz, has been arrested and booked into jail on multiple charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The man who was shot told police he was sitting in his SUV with the woman when another man began shooting at them, police said.

The woman was able to get out of the car safely, while the victim was able to drive away and call 911.

After being found by officers, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The woman was found at a home near the shooting.

Detectives discovered that the woman lives in the home with Delacruz.

After police spoke with Delacruz, he was taken into custody for the shooting.

He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
