Arizona man sentenced to more than 7 years for death of romantic partner

PHOENIX — An Arizona man has been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for killing his romantic partner with his car, authorities announced Tuesday.

Termane Billy Celaya, 20, of McNary previously pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

Celaya was sentenced to 97 months in the Federal Bureau of Prisons during a Feb. 5 hearing.

Prosecutors said that Celaya was sitting in his pickup truck and his significant other was standing outside of it while the two were arguing.

During the disagreement, Celaya proceeded to back the truck up before driving it forward, running over and killing the victim.

Afterwards, Celaya fled the scene and led police on a pursuit before being taken into custody.

The FBI and the White Mountain Apache Police Department conducted the investigation into the case, which was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tucson.
