Scottsdale pedestrian killed by car; driver arrested for DUI

PHOENIX – A pedestrian was killed Thursday morning when he was hit by a car in Scottsdale, police said, and the driver was arrested for DUI.

Jason Barnhart, 48, was crossing 68th Street north of Thomas Road around 6:20 a.m. when he was hit by a gray sedan heading north, police said.

He received treatment from Scottsdale Fire Department paramedics but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police determined that the driver, 47-year-old Amy Durgan, was impaired by alcohol, and they arrested her for DUI.

The stretch of 68th Street between Thomas Road and Avalon Drive was closed for several hours.

The case remains under investigation.
