Man struck, killed while running across Phoenix street

A male pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle while running across a Phoenix street on Saturday morning, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A male pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle while running across a Phoenix street on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to the scene near 79th Avenue and McDowell Road around 8 a.m.

The Phoenix Fire Department later arrived and found a man, later identified as 35-year-old Dakota Antone, with serious injuries. He was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene after the collision, police said. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the incident.

Vehicular Crimes Unit detectives took over the ongoing investigation.

A preliminary investigation suggests the man did not yield to the right-of-way traffic.

The man’s identity was not released.
