Man arrested for allegedly assaulting father, attempting to set Phoenix house on fire

A man was arrested on Thursday after allegedly assaulting his father and attempting to set a Phoenix house on fire, authorities said.

A man was arrested on Thursday after allegedly assaulting his father and attempting to set a Phoenix house on fire, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to a call at a home near Cave Creek Road and 12th Street.

The father of the man had reported to police that his son assaulted him and attempted to set the house on fire, according to authorities.

Upon arrival, officers took the father to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said that as officers attempted to safely take the man into custody, smoke was seen coming from the home. Phoenix Fire personnel worked with officers and were able to put out the fire, and the man exited the house. He was taken into custody and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to fire officials, a firefighter was also taken to a hospital due to a lower extremity injury.

An investigation remains ongoing.
