Man arrested in Phoenix Target for tampering with food products

PHOENIX — A man was arrested by Phoenix officers on Tuesday for allegedly attempting to tamper with food products in six Target stores in the Phoenix area.

After reports of a man pouring a substance inside the store near 48th Street and Ray Road, Phoenix Fire Department Hazardous Materials crews determined that the atmosphere and liquid were not toxic.

The man was later identified as 48-year-old David Lohr. He is a transient who recently arrived to Arizona, according to court documents. He faces one felony count.

Lohr was released on bond and will appear in court next on Nov. 6.

Crews determined the substance was a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and vinegar.

A Target spokeswoman said there is reason to believe frozen pizzas, ice cream and fresh beef, pork and chicken products may have been tampered with at the following locations:

• Uptown Camelback (1625 E. Camelback Road)
• Arcadia Crossing (4515 E. Thomas Road)
• Ahwatukee (4734 E. Ray Road)
• Tempe (1818 E. Baseline Road)
• Chandler West Santan (3425 W. Frye Road)
• Scottsdale (9000 Talking Stick Way)

The spokeswoman said risk to customers is very low and no illnesses have been reported.

All potentially affected products have been removed from stores, she said.

Any customers who suspect they purchased impacted products should dispose of them and contact Target guest relations for a refund.
