PHOENIX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a 21-year-old man who was caught allegedly trying to smuggle nearly 75 pounds of drugs into the United States through the San Luis port in Arizona on Tuesday.
The unidentified man was arrested after officers stopped him at the border for additional questioning as he tried to enter the United States from Mexico in a Mercury SUV.
Officers searched the vehicle and discovered the nearly 75 pounds of smuggled drugs.
The discovery included nine pounds of heroin, 65 pounds of methamphetamine and almost 70 suspected fentanyl pills. They were concealed in the vehicle’s quarter panels.
