Tucson man struck, killed after rollover crash on East Valley freeway

40-year-old Adan Martinez was struck and killed Sunday night on the Loop 202 Santan Freeway after he left his vehicle following a rollover collision.

PHOENIX – A man was struck and killed on an East Valley freeway Sunday night after he left his vehicle following a rollover collision, authorities said.

The initial collision occurred around 11 p.m. on the eastbound side of the Loop 202 Santan Freeway between Lindsay and Gilbert roads in Gilbert, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).

One of the drivers got out of his vehicle after the crash and entered the westbound lanes, where he was hit by a van and then by other cars.

The victim, who was identified by DPS on Wednesday as 40-year-old Adan Juan Martinez of Tucson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of Loop 202 was closed for several hours while the scene was under investigation, but it was opened in time for Monday morning rush hour.

No other details about the deadly incident were made available.

The DPS Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the crash, while the Tucson and Gilbert police departments and the Arizona Department of Transportation are providing assistance.

So, he rolls his vehicle over, gets out and raises his arms yelling tadah...then thump.
Maybe he should have been in one of those magic crosswalks.
