Line forms overnight for tickets to see President Obama in Phoenix

PHOENIX — About a dozen people braved a chilly night for tickets to see President Obama when he visits the Valley later this week.

Tickets to the president’s speech at Phoenix’s Central High School are free but weren’t available until noon Tuesday on a first-come, first-served basis.

People bundled up and relaxing in lawn chairs at the Phoenix Union High School District office the night before, across the street from where Obama will speak.

A little bite in the air near Camelback Road on Central Avenue but that didn’t stop Jarvis Johnson from preparing for the hourslong wait in line.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. (Obama) only has two years left and most likely won’t be coming back to the Valley,” Johnson said. “My wife and daughter are in the car, so we’re all coming to see him.”

The president will speak about the housing recovery and is expected to announce new steps to help more Americans get their own home.

Janet Brandon also waited in line overnight with her dog helping keep her warm.

“(Obama) could talk about anything he wants to — I just want to be there to see him.”
