Valley Metro hosting 4 open houses related to South Central Extension light rail project

PHOENIX — Valley Metro and the city of Phoenix will share updates on the South Central Extension/Downtown Hub light rail project at four open houses in March.

The 5.5-mile project spans from downtown Phoenix to Baseline Road is entering the final stages of construction.

The first end-to-end testing of the new rail line was performed last weekend. Valley Metro expects the extension to open in mid-2025.

The extension will add eight new light rail stations and two park-and-rides to the city’s existing transit network.

Riders will have direct access to landmarks such as St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center.

When are the light rail project open houses?

Community members are invited to attend any of four open houses scheduled through March. Attendees will be able to speak with Valley Metro and city staff about project updates, public art, extension opening plans and more.

The open houses will be held on the following dates:

• Wednesday, March 19, at Lowell Elementary School from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, March 22, at the South Mountain Community Center from 9 a.m. to noon.
• Monday, March 24, at the Travis L. Williams Family Services Center from 10 a.m. to noon.
• Thursday, March 27, at CityScape Plaza in downtown Phoenix from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
