Arizona man sentenced to 9 days in prison for aiming laser pointer at Air Force jets during training

PHOENIX — An Arizona man was sentenced to nine days in prison for aiming a laser pointer at U.S. military jets, the U.S Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona announced Friday.

The incident occurred as F-16 jets with the U.S. Air Force were training in the desert area near the man’s Bagdad home on Oct. 5, 2021.

Because of the laser pointing, pilots were unable to see correctly or complete the training exercise as intended, according to authorities.

Glenwood Arthur Bringle, 56, pleaded guilty on Feb. 26, and he had to surrender several firearms and lasers seized in a search of his home the month after the incident.

He had previously pleaded guilty to aiming a laser at an aircraft or in its flight path at an unspecified time.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was involved in the investigation along with the Phoenix FBI field office and the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations.
