PHOENIX — A land developer has decided against including a truck stop in a new Glendale development.
Cotton Properties has told the city of Glendale it has canceled a sales agreement with Love’s Travel Stops for a new location on its 161-acre property located at the northwest corner of Bethany Home Road and the Loop 303, the city said in a press release Friday.
The company also entered into an agreement with the Montana Farms Property Owners Association and Protect Neighborhoods Now prohibiting a truck stop from being built in the development.
The city council approved for the rezoning of the land from agricultural use to planned area development on June 23. The zoning was to be split between commercial and industrial use and include the truck stop.
The rezoning to allow for the truck stop passed by a 6-1 vote, but was met by opposition from those in the surrounding neighborhoods.
“I want to thank the owners of Cotton Properties for their constant communication throughout this process,” Clark said in the release.
“I appreciate their patience and willingness to listen to the many different voices in our community.”
