Arizona man found dead in Lake Powell after jumping from houseboat

PHOENIX — An Arizona man was found dead in Lake Powell after jumping into the lake on Saturday night and never resurfacing, authorities in Utah announced Monday.

Utah’s Kane County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) received a 911 call around 8 p.m. reporting a 32-year-old man had not resurfaced after jumping into Lake Powell from a houseboat.

The boat was located on the north side of Wahweep Bay, which is on the Utah side of the lake.

KCSO, the Utah Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. National Park Service all responded to the scene.

The man’s body was ultimately found early Sunday morning about 17 feet underwater in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, according to KCSO.

His body was taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office and the case is still under investigation.

No other details were released.
