PHOENIX — The city of Tempe will be receiving a new dog park later this month.
Kiwanis Dog Park, located near Ash Avenue and Baseline Road, will host its grand opening celebration on May 31 from 8 to 10 a.m.
Remarks will be given at 8:30 a.m., and giveaways, snacks and a ribbon cutting will also highlight the event.
What will Kiwanis Dog Park feature?
The new dog park will be located on the north side of the park, near the existing soccer field. Construction began the week of Sept. 9, 2024, and is expected to be completed by the week of May 31.
The park will be divided into four sections, which will help separate big dogs from small dogs. Water hydrant spray features, two shade structures, trees, sidewalks, an agility course and lighting are additional amenities the park will offer. The Western Canal path will also be connected to the park.
After the grand opening, the park will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Officials said the north side of Kiwanis Park will see additional improvements this summer, including the installation of a new playground, concessions, restrooms and public art.
The park’s renovations and additions are being funded via the Parks Improvement Plan, which stems from the city of Tempe’s Capital Improvement Program budget. As a result, more than $60 million is being reinvested into Tempe’s parks over the next five years.
