Peoria man called police after killing his parents with hammer and knife

PHOENIX – A 29-year-old Peoria man called police Tuesday evening and told them he had just killed his parents with a hammer and a knife. He was angry they put him on medication, according to a probable cause statement.

Jonathan A. Turk is charged with first- and second-degree murder.

Turk called the Peoria Police Department about 6:29 p.m. and said he killed his parents at a home near 83rd Avenue and Jomax Road.

Turk told dispatchers his parents were upstairs and that he would step outside with a water bottle and cooperate with police.

Officers arrived at the scene in just a few minutes and arrested Turk for the double homicide.

Officers who went inside the residence found blood on the kitchen floor and stairs. A man with at least one apparent stab wound was located at the top of the first stairway landing. A woman was found unresponsive in the master bathroom with apparent head trauma, the statement said. Peoria paramedics declared both victims dead at approximately 6:42 p.m.

They were identified as 63-year-old Fraser S. Turk and 56-year-old Tina B. Turk.

While clearing the home, officers found a hammer and knife with apparent blood inside a trashcan in an upstairs bedroom, according to court records.

During an interview, Turk was read his Miranda rights but declined to make any statements. He does not have any prior criminal convictions, according to the probable cause statement.

Turk was eventually booked into a Maricopa County jail on one count each of first-degree murder and second-degree murder.

Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The case was turned over to Maricopa Superior Court. Turk is being held on $2 million bond.
