Phoenix-born pop star Jordin Sparks to perform at Goodyear Lakeside Music Festival

PHOENIX — Jordin Sparks, a Phoenix native and the youngest American Idol winner in the show’s history, will headline the Goodyear Lakeside Music Festival on March 29.

The free and family-friendly event will take place in the Estrella Lakeside Amphitheater, which is at 10300 Estrella Parkway, from 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets, towels and lawn chairs to sit on.

What else is there to do at the Goodyear Lakeside Music Festival?

In addition to the musical performances, the festival will feature lawn games, a kids’ area, food trucks, local vendors and a beer garden, according to city officials.

The annual festival aims to showcase both up-and-coming talent and established artists from Arizona.

Sparks, 35, was born in Phoenix and is the daughter of Phillippi Sparks, a cornerback who played for the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys after attending Arizona State University.

While Sparks’ father played for the Giants, she grew up in New Jersey before later moving back to the Valley to attend Northwest Community Christian School and Sandra Day O’Connor High School.

She was later homeschooled so she could focus on her singing career. The hard work paid off when she won American Idol as a 17-year-old.

Goodyear Lakeside Music Festival full lineup

Sparks, an R&B artist, will perform at 7:15 p.m.

Here’s the lineup of artists performing before her:

• Tolleson Elementary School District will give a mariachi show at 3:30 p.m.
• Garrett James & the Wanderers, a classic rock group, will play at 4 p.m.
• Jane N’ The Jungle, a modern rock group, is scheduled to play at 4:45 p.m.
• Francine Reed, a blues performed, will play at 6 p.m.

The final show of the night will be performed by In Color Band, a country music act, at 8:30 p.m.
