Johnson Fire near Prescott almost 50% contained

PHOENIX — A fire in northern Arizona that triggered evacuation orders this week is now almost half-contained.

Officials said Thursday morning the 166-acre Johnson Fire, about 8 miles south of Prescott, was 46% contained.

Residents in the Lookout Mountain and Maverick Mountain areas of Prescott National Forest were told to evacuate Sunday, but the order was lifted Monday.

The fire led to several closures. The public was asked not to travel through Ponderosa Park, Lower Wolf Creek or Potato Patch while crews work to fight the fire.

Upper Wolf Creek Group Campground was set to reopen Friday, while Lower Wolf Creek Campground will remain closed for the season.

All camping sites in the southern part of the Prescott Basin will also reopen Friday.

A Type 2 Incident Management Team was in command of the fire.

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke on Sunday around 2:15 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
