Phoenix diner to make 2nd attempt at world’s tallest pancake stack

PHOENIX — Joe’s Diner in Phoenix is taking another crack at creating the world’s tallest stack of flapjacks.

The restaurant located on Seventh Avenue, between Camelback and Indian School roads in Phoenix’s Melrose District, will attempt to break the world record on March 4 at 7:30 a.m.

The current Guinness World Record for the tallest stack of pancakes measured at 3 feet, 4 inches tall, and totaled 213 pancakes. It was set by James Haywood and Dave Nicholls in the United Kingdom in 2016 at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest.

The last time Joe’s attempted to break the world record came in February of 2024. The diner came up short after three attempts.

Joe Seriale, owner of Joe’s Diner, was able to construct a stack of pancakes that reached 2 feet, 2 inches before tumbling down.

“I made it to about two and a half feet last year with around 100 pancakes and after doing a few practice rounds over the last year, I’m ready to take another go at it,” Seriale said in a press release.

Joe’s Diner has been a Valley staple since 2010. The restaurant prides itself on serving homemade food each day using only local ingredients.

Famous for its made-from-scratch buttermilk pancakes, the diner also offers other favorites such as homemade biscuits and gravy, meatloaf, eggs benedict, French dip, omelets and more.
