IRS looking for Arizona volunteers to help with 2020 taxes

PHOENIX — The IRS is looking for Arizona volunteers to provide free tax help during the 2020 season.

No previous experience is required to volunteer, according to an agency press release.

Participants can choose to take tax law training online or in a classroom from November through January.

More than 2,200 state residents helped prepare over 88,000 tax returns last year, according to the release.

“The IRS and its partners are looking for volunteers that are interested in taking a little time to learn about taxes and then helping others prepare federal income tax returns for free,” agency spokesperson David Tucker II said in the release.

“People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome to volunteer.”

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly programs offer free tax preparation to people with low-to-moderate income, including seniors and those with disabilities.

Nationwide, volunteers helped prepare more than 3.2 million returns last year, according to the agency.
