Investigators received 4,000+ tips in Nancy Guthrie case after sharing surveillance photos, video

PHOENIX — The area around the home of missing woman Nancy Guthrie — mother of “Today” anchor Savannah Guthrie — was filled with law enforcement activity Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, it was a busy 24 hours: the agency received more than 4,000 tips during that period.

Much of that activity began Tuesday, when authorities released surveillance photos and video showing a masked person wearing gloves and what appeared to be a handgun holster on Guthrie’s porch around the time she disappeared.

According to The New York Post, FBI agents on Wednesday recovered a black glove from the ground near her house that appears to match those worn by the person in the video.

FBI Director Kash Patel said the photos and video of the masked person were recovered from the “backend systems” of the surveillance camera outside her Tucson home.

In addition, on Tuesday night, law enforcement detained a man in connection with the investigation. He was released without charges, a point authorities announced on Wednesday, describing the detention as a follow‑up on incoming leads.

While officials did not release his name, a man from Rio Rico who identified himself as “Carlos” told ABC15 that he was detained Tuesday evening and released early Wednesday morning.

New details in the Nancy Guthrie case as investigation picks up

By Wednesday morning, the FBI — which is offering a $50,000 reward — said agents were conducting extensive searches along Catalina Foothills‑area roadways.

Later that afternoon, agents asked several TV stations camped outside Guthrie’s home — where she was last seen the night of Jan. 31 — to move so they could search the desert area the crews were occupying.

The search was part of a renewed probe that included continued canvassing around both Guthrie’s home and the nearby home of her daughter, Annie Guthrie.
