Buckeye man faces possible fine, jail time for illegally dumping debris

PHOENIX – A Buckeye man faces the possibility of a fine and jail time after getting caught on camera illegally dumping debris, authorities announced Tuesday.

The Buckeye Public Works Department reported on May 14 that somebody left a pile of debris in a desert area near Sunrise Drive and Miller Road, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

The area is known for illegal dumping, so Public Works employees previously set up a camera to conduct surveillance. The camera captured still photos of a silver truck leaving the debris pile behind on May 8.

Investigators used resources from the Buckeye Police Real Time Information Center to find the truck’s owner.

Detectives contacted the man and cited him for criminal littering, an offense punishable by a fine of up to $750 and up to four months in jail.

Authorities want Buckeye residents to be aware they can dispose of up to 600 pounds of debris for less than $14 at the Southwest Regional Landfill.
