PHOENIX — A semitruck rollover shut down Interstate 10 heading west for several hours that led into the Tuesday morning commuter rush.
The accident at the split with Interstate 17 kept lanes closed from late Monday until almost 6:30 a.m. the next morning. The truck spilled metal rebar onto the roadway. Traffic trying to get to central Phoenix and beyond was backed up.
An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman said the truck driver suffered injuries, but none were life-threatening.

East Valley drivers who were lucky enough to hear about the crash before getting stuck were able to divert to State Route 143 and take Loop 202 to reach I-10.
