PHOENIX — Eastbound Interstate 10 in southern Arizona has reopened Thursday night, after a wreck in New Mexico shut down the highway and sent drivers on an exceptionally long detour.

There was no word on injuries or how many vehicles were involved.

Arizona Department of Transportation officials said the freeway was closed about 70 miles east of Tucson, where traffic was being shunted onto a roughly 100-mile detour along U.S. Highway 191.

That route will take drivers to Safford and then east on U.S. Highway 70.

Drivers will be able to pick up I-10 again in Lordsburg, New Mexico.

Officials at the New Mexico Department of Transportation said windy conditions also diverted traffic onto Highway 70.
