Police released new information about missing Avondale couple, search for son

The adult son of a missing Litchfield Park couple is believed to have fled the country before authorities discovered human remains buried in the backyard of the family’s home, police said.

The Avondale Police Department identified 27-year-old Matthew Flores as a suspect in the homicide investigation. Flores lived at the home with the missing husband and wife before they disappeared, according to a Friday update from the department.

The investigation began Tuesday when officers conducted a welfare check at the residence, located near Indian School Road and Wigwam Boulevard. It became a homicide investigation after the remains were discovered in the backyard.

What do police know about human remains found in Litchfield Park residence?

The remains have not been identified, and authorities do not know how long they were buried. Autopsies are pending. At the family’s request, police have not released the names of the missing couple.

Investigators have processed three vehicles believed to be connected to the case. The U.S. Marshals Service and FBI are also assisting with the investigation and the search for Flores.

Police have not released details about Flores’ possible whereabouts or where he may have fled.
