Human remains found in Phoenix desert last year identified

PHOENIX — Authorities have identified the human remains that were found in the Phoenix desert last year.

Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said the remains found near 11th Street and Alameda Road on Aug. 10, 2018, were identified as 22-year-old Tereina Jones.

Enriquez said Jones was reported missing by Phoenix police on Sept. 8, 2017. She was last seen near St. Joseph’s Hospital near Third Avenue and Thomas Road.

According to ABC15, Jones was 21 when she went missing.

Jones’ death is believed to be “malicious,” he added. There was no information provided about a suspect.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.
