30 displaced, over 50 units affected after hotel fire in Phoenix

Around 30 people were displaced early Sunday morning after a fire swept through a North Phoenix hotel, authorities said.

Firefighters responded around 3 a.m. to reports of a blaze at a Travelodge near 25th Avenue and Greenway Road, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames pouring from the second floor of the two-story building.

First responders quickly evacuated both floors and extended handlines to battle the flames.

Due to the size of the structure and the number of rooms impacted, fire officials upgraded the incident to a second alarm to bring additional resources to the scene.

More than 50 units were affected by the fire.

No injuries were reported to civilians or firefighters, authorities said.

Members of the Phoenix Fire Department’s Community Assistance Program and hotel management are working directly with the 30 displaced individuals to provide shelter and essential aid.

The Fire Investigation Task Force remains on scene to determine what caused the fire.
