Hoover Dam bridge reopens after suspect in barricade incident arrested

PHOENIX — Police activity forced a highway closure at the Hoover Dam in Nevada near the Arizona border Friday afternoon.

The Nevada Highway Patrol tweeted that the man, identified Saturday as 30-year-old Matthew P. Wright, was taken into custody without incident on the Arizona side of the border, and traffic resumed on U.S. Highway 93.

An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman said a call came in around noon of an armed subject in an armored vehicle on the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.

Authorities say Wright had initially stood outside the vehicle near the Hoover Dam holding a sign that read “release the OIG report.”

He was arrested after barricading himself for 90 minutes and then driving over tire spikes.

Wright is currently being held at the Mohave County Jail on charges that include terrorist acts.

U.S. Highway 93 is the main route between Phoenix and Las Vegas.
