PHOENIX — Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies shot and killed a hit-and-run suspect armed with a bladed weapon in the East Valley early Monday.
The shooting occurred just after midnight at the home of the suspect’s aunt near Avenida Del Yaqui and Calle Guadalupe in Guadalupe, a town adjacent to Tempe and Ahwatukee, MCSO said.
The suspect, whose name was not released, allegedly was making suicidal statements and refusing to drop the weapon when MCSO deputies shot him.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
MCSO deputies first responded to the home after the suspect’s aunt reported that her adult nephew was making suicidal statements and talking about being involved in a hit-and-run collision on US 60 in Tempe.
No other details were made available.
