Police investigating after woman, pet dog killed in hit-and-run collision in Phoenix

PHOENIX – A woman and her pet dog were killed in a late-night hit-and-run collision in west Phoenix, authorities said.

Officers responded to the scene near 51st Avenue and Elwood Street, south of Lower Buckeye Road, around 1 a.m. Friday, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Brittany Geib, 29, and her dog were found in the middle of the street with critical injuries, police said.

The hit-and-run victims were pronounced dead at the scene by Phoenix Fire Department responders.

What did police say about deadly hit-and-run collision?

“Detectives responded to the scene and learned of a vehicle, possibly a Toyota Tacoma, driving south on 51st Avenue had struck Geib while she was in the roadway with her dog,” Sgt. Brian Bower said in a media advisory. “The vehicle did not stop and continued south, leaving the scene of the collision.”

Another vehicle, possibly a Toyota Camry, might also have hit Geib and left the scene, police said.
