Hillary Clinton chimes in for David Garcia in Arizona gubernatorial race

PHOENIX – Arizona Democratic gubernatorial candidate David Garcia, a big underdog according to the polls, picked up an endorsement from a party bigwig Monday: 2016 presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Clinton tweeted that there was a chance to flip 17 governorships from Republican to Democrat and highlighted four of them in follow-up posts.

Garcia was the first of those four to be cited by the former U.S. secretary of state, senator and first lady.

Clinton praised Garcia as “a husband, dad, veteran and teacher who will fight for education and root out corruption in Arizona.”

Garcia, who has been trailing incumbent Gov. Doug Ducey by a significant margin in recent polling, acknowledged Clinton’s support and thanked her for it.

In the first week of October, Phoenix-based research firm Data Orbital released a poll that found Ducey with a lead of around 16 percent for the Nov. 6 election.

A YouGov/CBS poll conducted last week showed Ducey up by 11 percent.

According to data analysis website FiveThirtyEight.com, Garcia has only a 1-in-20 chance of unseating Ducey.
