Hiker hospitalized in critical condition after collapsing on Phoenix trail

PHOENIX – A hiker was airlifted off a Phoenix mountain trail in critical condition Friday morning after becoming overheated, first responders said.

The 38-year-old woman collapsed on Echo Canyon Trail at Camelback Mountain, the Phoenix Fire Department said in a press release.

A friend of the woman’s called emergency services around 11 a.m. Paramedics reached the trail and determined they should bring the collapsed woman with a helicopter hoist.

Once on the ground, the woman, who is from out of state, was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

No other details were made available.

It was the second hiker call out of the morning for Phoenix Fire.

A crew was dispatched to Piestewa Peak to help a man who had a seizure while hiking.

Someone else on the trail saw him and called 911, firefighters said.

The man was alert by the time paramedics reached him. They evaluated him and determined him to be in stable condition. Rather than go to the hospital, the man went home with family members who were there.
