Hikers rescued from Camelback Mountain, helicopter required in rescue

PHOENIX — Two hikers were taken to the hospital for symptoms related to heat exhaustion after being rescued from Camelback Mountain.

One was rescued on a big wheel stretcher and the other taken off the mountain with the help of a Phoenix PD Firebird helicopter.

Both hikers were rescued on the Echo Canyon Trail side of the mountain.

Phoenix Fire Department said the hikers were part of a group of eight out-of-towners, who working their way down the mountain.

The other six hikers made it down the trail with assistance.

Second hiker discovered in distress during rescue

While rescuing on the first hiker, others in the group alerted the rescue team that a second hiker was in need of help and couldn’t continue down the trail.

At that point, rescuers planned a hoist operation with the Phoenix PD Firebird helicopter.

No rescuers were injured in the operation.
