PHOENIX — By fifth grade, the average schoolchild should be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers and memorize and recite a speech or poem. That’s what a 10-year-old does in the classroom.

Unless that child is Ria Cheruvu of Gilbert. The 10-year-old math prodigy at Arizona Connections Academy in Mesa is on track to graduate from high school next year.

Cheruvu told the East Valley Tribune that in a few years she hoped to be studying at Harvard.

She’s not just a classroom whiz, she also plays the piano, likes to sing and has landed parts in three movies.

After the high school diploma is in hand, Cheruvu will kick back for a while, with her parents’ encouragement. College can wait, but at the rate she’s going, she’ll be a university graduate who’s still not old enough to drive.
