Here’s where to find Veterans Day parades, tributes Friday in metro Phoenix

PHOENIX – Cities around the Valley have made special plans to celebrate Veterans Day, with ceremonies, parades and other community events Friday.

Here’s a list of events around metro Phoenix paying tribute to service members:

Avondale

The West Valley city’s celebration to honor veterans will begin at 9 a.m. at Estrella Mountain Community College, near Thomas and Dysart roads.

Chandler

The East Valley city will honor veterans and active military service members with an event at 7 p.m. at Veterans Oasis Park, near Lindsay and Chandler Heights roads.

Fountain Hills

The town will honor veterans in a gathering that will start at 9 a.m. at Fountain Hills Park, near Saguaro and Palisades boulevards.

Glendale

A ceremony to honor veterans will begin at 8 a.m. outside the main public library at 59th Avenue and Brown Street.

The city will stream the event on social media.

Goodyear

The West Valley city’s Veterans Day Tribute Festival will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Goodyear Civic Square. The event near McDowell Road and 150th Drive will feature a concert, food trucks, giveaways and activities for children.

Admission is free.

Mesa

The East Valley Veterans Parade will run from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The parade gets underway immediately, leaving from Center Street and University Drive and ending at Robson and First Street.

Over 100 entrants will make the journey, including military service organizations, bands, vehicles, animals and marchers. The event will also feature a flyover.

Admission is free.

Peoria

The city will host a ceremony starting at 8 a.m. at Rio Vista Community Park near Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway and Thunderbird Road.

Phoenix

The capital city’s 26th parade dedicated to veterans features floats, marching bands, military vehicles and balloons and will begin at 11 a.m.

Organizers expect a crowd of about 45,000.

The route starts south of Bethany Home Road at Central Avenue and ends at Seventh Street and Indian School Road.

Scottsdale

The city’s Veteran’s Day Commemoration will begin at 3 p.m. at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park near Scottsdale and Indian Bend roads.

The event will feature speakers, a band playing patriotic music and marchers.

Admission is free.

Tempe

The East Valley city’s 50th Veterans Day Parade begins at 10 a.m.

The route goes from Arizona State University’s Gammage Auditorium to Tempe Beach Park, where entertainment and a resource village will be set up.
