Heating up: Phoenix area to see first string of 100-plus degree days of 2016

PHOENIX — Get those air conditioners ready: The Phoenix area is expected to see its first string of 100-plus degree days for the first time this year.

The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 102 on Thursday, 105 on Friday and 102 on Saturday.

“It’s definitely going to feel a little bit more like summer,” Chris Kuhlman with the weather service said. “Prepare yourself if you’re outside between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.”

Sunday will top out just below 100.

Temperatures above 100 are not the norm. Kuhlman said such temperatures are about 10 degrees warmer for this time of year.

Phoenix recorded its first day over 100 degrees of 2016 last week.

Las year, Phoenix surpassed the century mark for the number of days with a high of at least 100 degrees.

Kuhlman said it’s important to drink plenty of water and stick to shady areas as much as possible as temperatures climb.

The triple-digit heat is not expected to stick around. The weather service said highs should drop to about 90 degrees by Monday or Tuesday.
