Harrison Ford to deliver ASU commencement address in May

PHOENIX — Actor Harrison Ford will address Arizona State University’s class of 2026 at the spring undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 11 at Mountain America Stadium.

Ford, known for iconic roles including Han Solo in “Star Wars,” will receive an honorary Doctor of Arts and Humane Letters during the ceremony. His six-decade career also includes “Blade Runner,” and “Witness,” for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.

The actor serves as vice chair of Conservation International and attended the September 2025 launch of ASU’s Rob Walton School of Conservation Futures in New York.

“I recognize this is an important opportunity to encourage your students to invest in their futures and in nature,” Ford told ASU News. “We’re at a critical stage in the world because we’ve neglected our obligation to nature.”

ASU President Michael Crow called Ford one of the leading voices for conservation.

“One of America’s great actors and communicators, Harrison Ford has led us all in his explorations around the Earth and the galaxy,” Crow said. “He has helped to teach in his approach to acting with the spirit of the skeptic and the problem-solver.”

Philanthropist to join Harrison Ford in ASU honors

Philanthropist Howard Graham Buffett will also receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters and deliver remarks.

Buffett is chairman and CEO of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, one of the world’s largest private philanthropic organizations. He is the son of Warren and Susan Thompson Buffett.

The foundation has partnered with ASU on multiple projects, including collaborations with the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

“It’s especially meaningful because our foundation has owned research farms in Arizona for more than a decade,” Buffett said.
