Arizona Gov. Hobbs orders flags to fly at half-staff to honor firefighter killed in motorcycle crash

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs has ordered state government buildings to fly flags at half-staff on Sunday.

Hobbs issued the edict for the interment of firefighter EMT Glenn Collins, who was killed in a motorcycle crash on his way to work in eastern Arizona last week.

The order covers only state buildings, but individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to lower their flags as a tribute, too.

Collins, 46, died on Oct. 3 after a head-on collision with a truck on Lone Pine Dam Road just outside Show Low.

Collins is the third member of the Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District to die in the last month. On Sept. 14, 31-year-old Brenna Kulikowski and 21-year-old Damon Thompson were killed in a head-on collision involving their ambulance and a car on State Route 260 southwest of Heber.

Collins served with the fire and medical district for seven years.

His memorial is scheduled for noon on Sunday at Show Low High School Auditorium.

“My deepest condolences go out to the Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District for another unimaginable loss in their community,” Hobbs said in a press release. “We honor and remember Glenn Collins, and we will always appreciate his brave service to others. We mourn along with his family, his friends and our first-responders community.”

Hobbs previously ordered flags to fly at half-staff for Kulikowski’s and Thompson’s memorials.
